What this tool does

Online application forms almost always ask for two things at once: an exact pixel size, and a file size inside a fixed range - for example a photograph of 200 x 230 pixels that must weigh between 20 KB and 50 KB. Getting one right usually breaks the other, and the upload gets rejected.

This tool sets both together. You give it the pixel size and the KB range the form asks for, and it produces a JPEG that satisfies both at once.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether you are making a photograph or a signature.
  2. Pick one of the common sizes, or type the exact width, height and KB range printed on the form.
  3. Drag the image to position it and scroll to zoom. For a scanned signature, tick Clean up scanned background to whiten the paper and darken the ink.
  4. Check the status line. It turns green once the file is inside the required range.
  5. Click Download.

Why the file size matters as much as the pixel size

Forms reject an upload for being too large, but many also reject one for being too small - a very clean photograph can compress below the minimum. This tool handles both ends: it searches for the highest image quality that still fits under the maximum, and if the result falls under the minimum it pads the file to clear it.

Always check the form itself

The sizes listed here are the ones asked for most often, but requirements differ between departments and change from one notification to the next. Read the instructions on the form you are filling and type those numbers in - every box is editable.

Your files stay on your computer

The image is processed entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server, so customer photographs, signatures and identity documents never leave the machine you are working on.
